Hey, this is my overview for my English project. I think my ending is a little weak, could you comment on whats working and not working for you? Thanks!
Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan, usually referred to as just the K.K.K. All started on December 24th in 1865. By Calvin E. Jones, John B Kennedy, John C. Lester, Richard R. Reed, Frank O. McCord, and James R. Crowe. It started In a little town in tennessee called Pulaski with a population of about 6,600. The main reason of making the Klan was to show that whites were the dominant race, and all minority's were of lesser value. The name "Ku Klux Klan" comes from the word Kuklos, which means a band or circle. John Kennedy attended Centre college in Kentucky and did research on the word. Then James Crowe was the leader that suggested splitting Kuklos into two and changing the last letter to a "x", making Ku Klux. Since they were of Scottish decent they decided to put clan in it but changed the "c" to a "k" to make "Ku Klux Klan".
The Klan started just after the Civil war and it is believed that all six of the leaders were in the Confederate army just a few months before the Klan was established. The money value in the south dropped so they wanted to make a club. They made to committee's, one to choose a name and the other was to make rules, titles, and activities to be preformed by the Klan.
The Klan wanted Purity and to preserve their homeland. They also wanted protection for women and children. they made robes for the members that were all white- the symbol for purity. They had red trimmings to represent the blood shed in the defense of the helpless. these colors were also Confederate colors. The wife's of the Klan members made over 400,000 of these robes for the horses and the people. After the robes were made and they had there meeting, the six original members paraded down the streets on their horses wearing there robes. most Blacks thought they were ghosts coming to scare them.
The Klan did not intend to be violent until people dressed up as Klan members were hurting and killing blacks. Once this was happening they decided to get violent because the people wouldn't know the difference between the real and the fake Klan members.
Today there are still people that are members of the Ku Klux Klan but are not as violent as in the '50's and '60's. But today there are still people who do not like minority's, but still tolerate them so it makes up the culture of the United States.

I think your paper is pretty informational. You could add a little bit more to the last paragraph...I think that is about the only major revision....Nice Job!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good paper and you told the information very well.
ReplyDeleteYou had a lot of good info! this piece was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteGood job overall on this piece- it was quite detailed. This piece was quite interesting, and covers many aspects of the subject. I was, however, wondering what, or who, caused the violence to cease in the end, and when. Good work!
